Thank you

There’s not been much recent activity on Eloquent Fashion. After a short break from regular time in SL, I’ve decided not to continue with further fashion (and related) entries. I thought previously that time and money would be the main factors for any uncertainty over further blogging – I was grateful to find that I was able to feature a lot more in posts than expected.

Enthusiasm, energy and some level of consistency are just as essential to keep it all going. There has been a lot of fun involved, however without those elements and the feeling of creative outlet it faces becoming only a rote action. That, for me, leads to a disservice not only to creators’ work but to the people who have given thoughtful and supportive comments, those that have been readers of EF and, finally, to the time and efforts I have put in also.

The entries that have been made will not be deleted in the immediate future and can still be viewed by anyone looking for particular items. Current information will not be updated though – so availability, stores and SLurls will become out of date with time. Commenting on all posts will also be disabled as I will not be moderating as I have done.

I’ll sign off now with the following:

Whatever you create within or without Second Life, whether we have spoken, shared similar interests or not, you have my deepest thanks. It’s been a rich, varied and fascinating experience and one that has given positive strengths and insights. You do all make a difference through what you contribute; whether that may be physically measurable or remaining intangible; long may you continue to do so.

Good luck, happiness and health. L’Chaim!

Back in December 2008 a post appeared, written by the timelessly-elegant Caliah Lyon, on Soigné  - Subtle touches and needful things. Caliah showed some glasses and monocles that were so precisely made – with such richness in details of design – I instantly fell in love with a monocle. Okay, perhaps not Gone with the Wind swooning but it did create delight at the work being shown and made me wonder why I had not gone out to look at more glasses, monocles, eye patches, etc.,

There’s a vast array of designs around in-world these days. From the iconic, amusing, steampunk, film-inspired, gothic to the classically chic; they are all only a moment away from being the starting point of an outfit or the finishing touch.

Here’s a handful of some favourites in varying styles:

Glasses collection

Glasses collection

All the glasses shown above have demos available in the stores, which I’d strongly recommend trying out so you know, just as in real life, if the glasses suit your current face shape. Unlike real life it’s a lot easier to change if not.

Picture details:

NALA Dolce. 9 frame colours. 12 lens colours. 11 lens transparency options. Scripted to switch between nose and top of head position.  A lovely every day pair of glasses, the scripted ability to switch between nose and head position is a cute and useful addition.

Guild of Crie Momento. Scripted with 8 lens and matching side decoration colour options. A most unusual pair and the high level of details will have you charmed. Momento has a rotating side lens and a miniature clock face which is set to SL time. Another version is available which is set to Japanese time.

*PianPianno* Vita Rosae. Comes with three pairs in the set: nose attachment point, top of head and a folded pair on a pink neck chain. Available at *ottico* in Koenji. These I have featured before and I think are really bright and cheerful, they’re great fun to wear with casual and dressier outfits.

Eye Patches & Monocle

Eye Patches & Monocle

Picture details:

Little Boy Blue Yukio Eyepatch. This has such a wealth of colour texture change options I couldn’t possibly list them all! Tomoyuki Batra has created a rose eye patch, with beading, feathers, vine, every part customizable to your hearts’ content. It’s a striking and dramatic accessory for a costume.

Pink Fuel Lacey Heart Eyepatch. Mochi Milena’s work is always adorable and the eye patches she made are no exception; this Lacey Heart is so pretty and sweet. There are also some prim heart shaped glasses that look great as well.

Guild of Crie Guildio {Oz} Monocle. There is a demo for this but only available at the Magic of Oz satellite store alongside the full version. This was the first monocle I bought and I adore it to bits. Thanks again to Caliah Lyon and the Soigné blog for all their good work.

Other store SLurls can be found under the ‘SLurls, etc.’ tab at the top of the page. Unfortunately, due to some WP bug, I can’t update that page at the moment.

It might not be chocolate but it is lots cute goodness! Rebel Xtravaganza has released some super fruit in the form of the Frutta tops and Frutta tartan patterned pants.

Rouge Darcy has created these with casual separates mixing and matching in mind. The tops are available in two patterns: strawberry, as pictured above, and cherry. Both very cute indeed. I chose the darker Charcoal colour in the tops range but there are plenty of spring brights to choose from with the eight colours released. The Frutta pants come in seven colours and both come on all layers, with prim attachments, so it’s easy to layer in the way you like best.

The shading on the pants is really well done and the prim cuffs are colour change scripted also. Check out the belt bag that comes with them in particular! This has a resizing script as well as colour and texture change, so it’s very adaptable as a colourful accessory.

I had to fit in at least one of the bunny ears items around this time. This is an adorable hat, based on a design by Comme des Garçon, that Marni Grut of Royal Blue gave out to her subscriber group last week. It has a charming and fun air to it. Finally, the Lazy Places Wensen flats are well worth a close look. Not only do they have a design on the inner sole, by sheer accident whilst I was sitting in a tree, I noticed that the soles of the shoes have little stars on them. I love little details like that.

Thorns

With Easter-time holidays in action there are many bunnies, eggs, more bunny treats and bright colours being seen in-world. Tonnes of cuteness and fun abound, so I’ve completely left that aside and concentrated instead on a different release. This is Thorns by Fade Dana: collar and headpiece sets that are totally spiked in detail and are fabulous to build into a gothic or roleplay look.

Just so everyone knows: I’m not Christian myself. So if your religious or spiritual sensibilities might be offended by what I consider mild use of imagery then look away now, thank you kindly.  Onto the thorns.

Thorns

Thorns Plain set

In detailed close up they have a steampunkish look with the ridged bands that are tube-like,with the twisted braiding these look very organic particularly on the collar and there’s no mistaking that the thorn parts look wickedly sharp.

Although I wouldn’t label *RunoRuno* clothing as what I consider gothic, there is an intensity in the design of the UNDress series of releases that matched well with the design of Thorns. The Dutch Touch Amy skin has been out for awhile and seemed completely the right skin to use. The body shading does have additional scratching and bruising on the back and legs although that’s not shown in my pics. This skin does come separately to the rest of the make-up releases in each skin tone.

The Details:

Headpiece and collar: Fade Dana Crown of Thorns Plain set.

Outfit: *RunoRuno* UNDress Dinner.

Armwarmers on system layer: Ce-Cubic from the Black Mini Dress outfit.

Skin: Dutch Touch Amy Spring Wounds and Bruises.

Hair: Kin Aaron in Black.

Blame it on too much reading of detective novels and watching Chungking Express* last week. The girl with a handgun look is not one I’d generally do but I was tempted into trying it because of the look of Brigitte Lin in the above film. Although the film has not aged well in some ways (being made in 1994) it does contain some memorable scenes and quirky stories. It’s a challenge to create a look around it.

The coat from Aoharu is super for a detective noir look, the shading is superb in giving depth to the coat, as is the fabulous froof of the Piggy Moffatt hair from Pudge. I love this hair! All the separates shown are excellent for all kinds of looks and Zaara’s Isis shirt is one of the loveliest for casual or dressy styles I’ve come across. It’s also modifiable, which I did for this outfit to match the three-quarter length sleeves of the coat.

The gun I have had for ages, and it comes with all kinds of exotic rounds and a HUD with a variety of options, although never having taken part in any of the proper combat sims it’s perfomance is not something I can comment on. For stalking through neon-lit urban zones it does seem a handy accessory to have.

Finally: a thank you to the excellent Luna Jubilee who recently did a post concentrating on rings which featured an opulent cocktail ring, Times Square, from Paper Couture.  Perfect for a blended retro look.

The Details:

Coat: AOHARU Short Trench in YellowOchre.

Shirt: Zaara Isis in Pitch.

Stockings: Ornamental Life Starry Night (from a previous store opening gift).

Shoes: Periquita Funny Girl Flats in White.

Skin: CHAI Alla skin in Ginger.

Hair: PUDGE Piggy Moffitt in Sandy Blonde. Hair comes in 3 shades per colour.

Glasses: Gritty Kitty Pa-Zaaz! Comes with colour change script.

Ring: Paper Couture Times Square in Kyanite. Rings come in Diamond and Kyanite with non-bling and bling versions.

Gun: The Omega Concern Dual/Single Sig Sauer P229 Version 1.3.4

*Chungking Express (called Chungking Jungle, 重庆森林, in Chinese releases ) was made by the awesome Wong Kar-Wai. It tells two consecutive, and overlapping, stories of policemen who’ve just had relationships break up and the women that they meet as they get over their heartbreak.

A note on the photos: the composite background location is the marvellous build of Kowloon sim. Please be aware that Kowloon does not allow combat; roleplay or otherwise. Images have been altered in PS.
